7th October – Wool Week; Campaign for Wool

Feather & Hay is a proud weaver of wool and supports the Campaign for Wool!

Take a look at how I combine wool with other fibres this Wool Week.

As a farmer’s daughter I was introduced to the benefits of wool from an early age. I know it is important to get wool from farmers that respect animal welfare and I believe in sourcing from Britain. There is much to celebrate with this natural and beautiful raw material.

I weave wool along with other fibres such as eco-friendly Tencel, Rose and Hemp. By mixing with wool Feather & Hay creates textiles that have unique properties. Providing fabrics that are not only good for the planet but the perfect combination for you. Wool is soft, breathable and a natural insulator. It is also natural, renewable and biodegradable.

So why mix it I hear you cry?

I’m a bit of an explorer and trying out new combinations a natural draw. Wool IS a fantastic raw material and combining it with other amazing eco-friendly fibres brings a whole new world of advantages. Hand weaving allows the tailoring of fibre, colour and texture to suit the individual: to adjust and perfect small details without having to over produce. This is about slow fashion – creating a textile that will not only last a lifetime but be loved for all time too!
